College Admissions: Completing honors courses can make a student’s transcript stand out in the college admissions process, demonstrating a willingness to take on challenging coursework in a selected field of study.

Preparation for AP Courses: Honors classes can serve as a stepping stone to Advanced Placement (AP) courses the student might pursue as a junior or senior.

Personal Growth: The increased challenge and expectations of honors classes can help students build confidence, resilience, and a sense of accomplishment.

Personal Growth: The challenges of AP courses can help students build resilience, self-discipline, and a sense of accomplishment.

Dual Credit Courses and Opportunities

For students interested in pursuing interests beyond the scope of our offerings at IWHS, we have partnerships with the University of Incarnate Word and San Antonio College.

Students interested in Dual Credit classes should speak with their counselor before the spring course selection process. Students interested in Dual Credit courses must meet the following prerequisites:
  • Minimum 87 cumulative GPA
  • Be in good Administrative standing at IWHS, including academics, behavior, citizenship, and attendance.
