Service

“We are not called to serve merely in order to receive an award, but rather to imitate God, who made Himself a servant for our love. Nor are we called to serve only now and again, but to live in serving.” - Pope Francis

The Sisters of Charity of Incarnate Word have given our young women a model of living “a life for God and a heart for others.” They have instilled in us the challenge to step out of ourselves and truly serve those in most need of mercy. We encourage our students to answer that call and live the Mission of the Sisters of Charity of Incarnate Word with others.

All students will receive Service Plan Information, which includes QR codes on How to Set Up their X2Vol accounts, what is considered service, and approved service organizations.

Service Hour Guidelines

Students must complete 25 hours of service every year of enrollment at IWHS for the 100 mandatory hours toward graduation. Completing 100 hours in one lump sum will not be acceptable, as we want all students to engage in the service experience every year they are enrolled.

Service hours that will not be accepted are:
  • Political offices, organizations, and candidates
  • Family – you help your family because you love them
  • Any paid positions

Service Submission Deadlines
Service data is needed for end-of-year reports and award activities, so it is critical for students to complete their hour submissions and portfolios. See the Student Parent Handbook for more information on deadlines for each grade level.

All other service opportunities not originating from the Office of Mission and Faith Formation must be pre-approved by the Office.

Community Service Day

As a ministry of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, Incarnate Word High School models and lives the Charism of the CCVI’s motto, “A life for God and a heart for others”. We are committed to serving those in need of mercy by encouraging and offering opportunities for service. Each year, the entire school participates in Community Service Day, an entire day dedicated to serving others in our local community. Each Community Service Day is dedicated to someone who is a true model of service.

Community Service Day offers an opportunity for our students to participate in a day of service to our school, non-profit organizations in our community, Catholic Charities, and CCVI ministries. This event typically occurs in the Spring semester.
