Student Retreats

Our Retreats

Our retreat program is 100% student-led by the Peer Ministry team to emphasize the role of students as living examples of Christ in our community. Each year students are required to attend their class retreat and may choose to participate in the annual Grace Retreat, a schoolwide event open to all grade levels.

Our intent with our retreat programs is to give students an opportunity to reflect on their faith journey and strengthen their roles as core value models. Each retreat offers a transformative experience that equips students with faith-building skills and memories, fostering a strong sense of community and personal growth. Our goal is to encourage our students to turn to and seek God in their daily lives.

  • Freshmen Retreat

    Freshman Retreat
    Core Value: Compassion
    Focus Area: Rev. Mother Pierre

Our Freshman Retreat aims to invite our newest students into the Sisterhood and school community. First-years are introduced to our core value of Compassion and resources to commit to compassion in their daily lives. Freshmen learn about our school’s mission, the history of our founders, the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, and Rev. Mother Pierre. The freshman retreat experience calls on first-years to explore their faith, understand community, and begin their journey toward understanding their role in modeling faith for others on campus and beyond. This Peer Minister-led retreat is the first step in the formation of our Shamrocks. Peer Ministry will lead the retreat and provide opportunities for fellowship and memories.
  • Sophomore Retreat

    Sophomore Retreat
    Core Value: Service
    Focus Area: The Three Sisters

Our sophomore retreat aims to meet the students before they navigate their second year as Shamrocks. As they begin to establish themselves in the culture of Incarnate Word High School, our sophomores focus on the core value of Service. They will walk in the footsteps of our three sisters who traveled to San Antonio in 1869 with a mission to establish a hospital in response to the cholera epidemic. These sisters answered the call to serve and have laid the foundation for what we believe as a ministry of the CCVI today. Students will learn about the power of service and presence of God in their everyday lives and how they can spread that message to others. Peer Ministry will lead the retreat and provide opportunities for fellowship and memories.
  • Junior Retreat

    Junior Retreat
    Core Value – Integrity
    Focus Area: Bishop Claude Dubuis

As juniors, we call on students to embrace our core value of Integrity. They will walk with each other as they reflect on their previous years and how integrity has helped them navigate to the second half of their journey at Incarnate Word High School. They will learn about the CCVI founder, Bishop Claude Dubuis and his influence on CCVI legacy we know today. In addition, students will also explore their own legacy as the future leaders of the school when they transition as seniors. Peer Ministry will lead the retreat and provide opportunities for fellowship and memories.
  • Senior Retreat

    Senior Retreat
    Core Value – Stewardship
Focus Area: The CCVI of Today

The senior retreat, the last and final retreat, reflects on their entire four-year journey as a Shamrock and focus on the core value of Stewardship. Seniors will have an opportunity to reflect on their path and how they are being called to continue as stewards of their faith. Seniors will be able to have conversations with CCVI’s and learn how they have traveled their own stewardship journey. The retreat is commonly an overnight experience designed to provide multiple opportunities for students to strengthen their bonds and to cherish their final year together. Adult Ministry will lead the retreat and provide opportunities for fellowship and memories.

Grace Retreat

Grace Retreat is an annual school-wide retreat open to all grade levels. As an overnight retreat, this experience aims to explore your relationship with God and build deeper connections with your peers. This unique experience occurs annually in the Spring semester. Whether you are a student who wants to experience this event or lead this event, all are welcome. Grace Retreat leaders are open to students who are involved or are not involved in Peer Ministry.

Middle School Retreats

Incarnate Word High School’s Peer Ministry gladly collaborates with Central Catholic High School’s Life Teen to offer enriching class retreats for local Catholic middle schools. These retreats are designed to inspire young students, fostering spiritual growth, community building, and personal development. Recognizing that most middle schools are co-ed, we believe it is important for middle school boys to experience the faith development nurtured at Central Catholic. Through engaging activities and reflective sessions, we aim to provide a supportive environment where middle school students can deepen their faith and build lasting connections.
