Shamrock Sports

 Season runs from mid-October through early March.  Practices are rigorous, with an emphasis on fundamentals. Coach Reid designs each practice to help players develop and improve individual skills and helps create team cohesiveness through intense defense and a high energy offense. Coach Reid and his coaching staff are looking forward to another great year!

The Shamrock cross country program begins on August 1st and finishes at the end of October. The team competes in several meets throughout the season, some of them in out-of town locations. The team is comprised of very dedicated athletes and coaches who practice every morning at 5:45 a.m.

Training combines, long-distance road work, hill workouts, interval runs, trail work and occasional track work, which is designed to develop a runner's strength, endurance and speed. One of the team's goals each year is to perform well at the State meet.

Exciting new developments have been occurring within the Cheer and Dance programs. The Emeraldettes are under the leadership of Coach Victoria Hernandez. The girls have been working very diligently on their routines, which include choreography and strength and conditioning.

The mission of the IWHS Cheer and Dance programs are to promote school spirit and attendance at athletic events. Cheerleaders and Dancers raise spirit by cheering/performing at games, making posters for events, and performing at pep rallies.

Incarnate Word Golf is dedicated to producing championship-caliber golfers as well as a championship-caliber team. Under the leadership of Coach David Solis, the girls are provided with a great deal of skill work along with knowledge about the game. The golf team practices at First Tee Driving Range and Brackenridge Park Golf Course throughout the season. The Golf season runs from mid-January through mid-May.

IWHS fields a competitive Varsity team and a developmental Junior Varsity Team. The soccer season begins mid-October and runs through the beginning of March. The teams play roughly 20 games and participate in 3 tournaments.

The Shamrock Softball Program have captured the TAPPS State Championship 9 times with their most recent state title in 2018. What attests to the Shamrocks success is the competitive schedule each year, which has helped the team prepare for what was to come in their playoff run. Not only did the Shamrocks beat private school teams, they posted wins over many top-ranked teams in the city and state. The softball regular season runs from mid-January through mid-May.

The Shamrock Swim team is ready to embark on another successful swim season. Coach Rusty Ives will start his 9th season with the Shamrocks, which has proved to be a good fit for the team. Most of the the girls competed and resulted in top place finishes, many being first place, as well as finishing Regional Runner Ups in 2020. Swim season runs from September to February.

The tennis program attracts dedicated student-athletes willing to work hard to develop their game and to help make IWHS a top contender in TAPPS. The IWHS tennis program seeks to develop players to be the best they can be and reach their personal goals as well as team goals. Tennis season runs from September through April.

IWHS Track and Field program focuses on developing our athletes in all aspects by competing in invitation meets and relays throughout the season. Our athletes excel in multiple events, such as long and short distances and field events, at the state level. The Track and Field season runs from mid-January to mid-May.

The Shamrocks face a very competitive schedule and are working hard to make it back to the final four. Our coaching staff has built a program that stands on fundamentals and discipline. The volleyball regular season runs from the beginning of August through early November.
